Life in Wilton Manors

Over the past twenty years, the Wilton Drive corridor has undergone an economic transformation. Formerly a sleepy street lined with small retail shops, Wilton Drive is now the city’s arts and entertainment district, home to numerous restaurants, bars, shops, condos and rental developments that have blossomed over the last decade. Many of the businesses in the arts and entertainment district are LGBT-owned and/or operated, and “The Drive” has become a local, regional, and national destination for LGBT tourism.

While Wilton Drive has a large concentration of LGBT-friendly businesses, one of the most unique qualities of the City of Wilton Manors is that there is no “gay neighborhood” as found in many other LGBT friendly cities. Instead, all of the neighborhoods in this two-square mile Island City are diverse and safe for all residents. Many LGBT residents take an active role in community leadership serving on neighborhood association boards, City boards and within the many community resources.

Wilton Manors is home to several recreational facilities, the largest of which are Hagen Park, Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve, and Island City Park Preserve.

The City is a joint sponsor for the Stonewall Pride Wilton Manors event that takes place every June on Wilton Drive and attracts over 15,000 visitors.
